iPhone XS Max Review

The iPhone XS Max is fairly new. It was released towards the end of 2018. With ‘Max’ in its name, it shouldn’t surprise you that it’s big. Its screen stretches 6.5 inches across. If you have small hands, holding it might be tough. The regular XS comes in at 5.8 inches.

It has some weight to it – you’re looking at a 208-gram mobile. It’s pretty thin as well. How do you feel about 157.5 mm x 77.4 mm x 7.7 mm? Its weight and dimensions make it feel more premium. The fact that it was made from glass and aluminum also helps.

The glass on its back is the super strengthened Gorilla type – good luck trying to scratch it.

You don’t have to worry about getting it wet. It is IP68 rated, so it can handle 2m of water for 30 minutes.

No, there isn’t a fingerprint sensor on its rear. It’s underneath the display and unlocks the unit super-fast. There is facial recognition as well.

As its display is big, you can immerse in whatever you’re watching. Apple placed a very vibrant panel too, the Super Retina OLED.

Not only is it colourful, but it can also get very bright. 500 max nits is the gold standard and the XS Max goes way above it. Its display is 625 nits.

There’s barely any bezel action going on. Its screen-to-body ratio is 84.4%.

You’re getting a very sharp screen. Its resolution is a whopping 1242 x 2688 pixels. It's sharp and tough. Just like on its rear, Apple placed Gorilla glass on its front.

The company added an oleophobic coating. You can snack while using the mobile, oil won’t stick to it.

It comes with Apple’s Wide Color Gamut technology which is the cherry on top.

What’s the processor housed? The A12 Bionic chip. It was the most powerful processor when it first hit the market. These days, it’s still beastly, though. The amount of RAM the XS comes with makes using it even smoother. You’ll be picking it up with 4 GB of memory.

It doesn’t come with a MicroSD slot. But you can pick it up with good storage. The options available are 64, 256, and 512 GB of space.

Being so thin, it’s not shocking that a large battery isn’t inside. It has a 3174 mAh unit in-place. You can expect the XS Max to fully drain in around a day. To charge it, you’ll be plugging a 15 W fast charger into its USB-2.0 port. The iPhone takes around half an hour to go from 0-50%.

Of course, it comes with wireless charging. However, reverse charging is not a feature you get.

iPhones are known for their superb cameras. The model we’re reviewing is no different. It comes with a dual set-up on its rear. It consists of a 12 MP primary wide lens and a 12 MP secondary telephoto lens. The shots taken are super vibrant and colour accurate – they’re also excellent in dim settings.

Taking pictures in low-light is easy as there is a powerful quad-LED set-up.

On its front, a single 7 MP shooter is present. It takes shots that would leave you Instagram-ready.

Being an iPhone, it’ll cost quite a bit. You can pick it up for around Rs.163,000 islandwide.
