Best Budget Vivo Phone in Sri Lanka (Under Rs. 20,000)

From Rs 10,000 to 20,000

Vivo Y91C

For the amount you’re paying for the Vivo Y91C, it is a pretty great phone. However, you should know that it doesn’t have features that make it stand out.

Its back is made from plastic which makes it light to the touch. Many of us have gotten used to more hefty glass or metal backs, so this is a bummer. That being said, for its price point, we can’t complain.

Speaking of heft, it’s only 169 grams. It has a pretty slim bezels which is cool but this makes the phone look lighter than it is.

Even though it’s plastic, Vivo makes it look good. With one glance, you won’t be able to tell that the phone is only 19,000 rupees. This is due to its vibrant color gradient. The gradients come in all sorts of colors but our favorite is the red.

Something that’s great about the Y91C is its SIM slot. No, it isn’t a hybrid so you don’t have to worry about choosing between a SIM or memory card.

In terms of the display, the phone utilizes Vivo’s ‘Halo FullView’. This allows for an 88.6% screen to body ratio which is something to be happy about.

The Y91c’s screen is large at 6.22 inches. However, it isn’t that great as it’s only 720p with a pixel density of 217ppi. That being said, the use of an IPS display does make certain colors pop.

Its performance is pretty good. It comes with the MediaTek Helio P22 chipset that is comparable to the SnapDragon 420 that’s in more expensive devices. In fact, in some benchmark tests, the Vivo Y91C has been shown to outperform the more expensive Huawei Y7 Prime.

It utilizes the PowerVR GPU. Although this is nothing to complain about, it isn’t fit for heavy gaming.

The Y91’s camera is extremely basic and has features that you won’t be too impressed about. In fact, it doesn’t even have HDR which is something that we’re starting to see in lower-end phones. However, you’ll like the fact that it captures relatively great low light shots for its price.

To pick the Vivo Y19c as our best device, we had to run through a couple of other phones. They are the:

  • Vivo Y71
  • Vivo Y90 32GB
  • vivo Y53
Vivo Y91C - Sri Lanka

Best Mid-Range Vivo Phone in Sri Lanka (Rs. 20,001 - Rs. 50,000)

From Rs 20,000 to 30,000

Vivo Y12 64GB

The Vivo Y12 is known for its superior battery. You wouldn’t expect this from a phone at its price point. If you’re wondering, its battery is 5000mAh. This allows for up to 60 hours of use, It’s cut short to 20-24 if you can’t stop using Netflix like me.

It also comes with reverse charging. In a way, this lets you use the Y12 as a power bank. Such a feature is great considering the fact that we Lankans are always on the go.

The Y12’s screen is huge, larger than the Y19C’s. However, it’s only by 0.13 of an inch (but size matters right?). Unfortunately, it also only offers a 720p display so the screen isn’t the most vivid.

Its IPS technology does make certain colours pop, so keep this in mind. The phone also comes with the Halo full view display so the majority of the screen is the display, coming with an 81.9% screen to body ratio.

Now:

For its price point, the camera is impressive, especially its autofocus feature. In fact, it can take some great low light shots. What’s more, we enjoyed its HDR and bokeh features as well.

For such a cheap phone, you’ll love the addition of a responsive fingerprint sensor. Most importantly, we liked that the device came with face unlock. However, it’s only in 2D.

In terms of gaming and general performance, there isn’t too much to say about the Y12. It has the Mediatek Helio P22 which we saw in the Y19C. For the Y19C this was great due to its lower price but the Y12 is more expensive, so the P22 didn’t impress us.

Although it’s a 64 GB device, you can expand its storage with an SD card so the sky is your limit.

To crown the Y12 64 GB as our pick, here are the other phones we had to consider:

  • Vivo Y91 64GB
  • Vivo Y81
  • Vivo Y91
  • Vivo Y81i
  • Vivo Y11 (2019)
  • Vivo Y91i
  • Vivo Y91i 32GB
Vivo Y12 64GB - Sri Lanka

From Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 40,000

Vivo Y19

So far, it’s the phone with the biggest storage we’ve come across, coming in at 128 GB. What’s more impressive is your ability to expand this with a micro SD card.

It also comes with 4GB of RAM so running the device smoothly is not an issue.

The battery is large as well. It’s as big as the Y12 as it’s 5000mAh. However, it isn’t as noteworthy as seeing the battery in a phone that’s 26,000 rupees like the Y12.

The device comes with a good camera. There are 3 of them on the rear while 1 in the front. The rear cameras are 16 Mp, 8MP and a 2MP depth sensor. The front camera is really what caught our attention as it’s a whopping 20 MP.

It also comes with the Halo Full View display. What’s so great about this is that the screen to body ratio is 90.3% in the Vivo Y19. This gets even better considering the screen is massive at 6.5 inches. So, it’s a great device for multimedia purposes (although seemingly, it can be bad for your eyesight as you’ll always be glued to it).

The Y19 is the first phone on our list that doesn’t come with the P22 processor. Instead, it has the Helio P65. The P65 promises up to 20% faster speeds than its previous generations, so this makes the phone noticeably fast.

At the end of the day, the Y19 looks pretty premium. It’s hefty at 193 g and comes with a glass-like finish. So, even though it’s plastic, you can fool your friends into thinking it’s not.

To pick the Y19 as our favorite, we went through the below phones:

  • Vivo Y17
  • Vivo Y95
  • Vivo Y15
  • vivo Y85
Vivo Y19 - Sri Lanka

From Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 50,000

Vivo S1 6GB (128GB)

It looks a lot like the phones we discussed so far. They all seem to have a gradient of some sort on their back.

That being said, we enjoyed the S1’s the most as it has a diamond lattice in a cool lavender-purple tone. The colour scheme makes the phone look a lot like Huawei’s P30 Pro which is very expensive. In fact, you may not be able to tell the difference if you’re new to the world of phones.

Of course, it comes in other colours too.

We enjoyed the fact that it not only had a fast fingerprint sensor, but also a dedicated button for the Google Assistant. If you’re a busy person, this is a god-send.

Unlike the other phones discussed, the S1 64 GB is AMOLED. So, the colors really pop. This is wonderful considering the display is 6.38 inches.

If you’re wondering, it has a phone to body ratio of 90% so it’s pretty much all screen. That being said, the Y19 was cheaper and had a better ratio.

Like the Y19, the S1 6GB comes with the P65 chip. So, it’s fast. You may want a comparison, however. The P65 is equivalent to the Snapdragon 660 which you can see in more premium devices (like the Nokia 7 plus and Blackberry Key 2).

We love the camera on the phone. The selfie camera is one of the best so far as it packs a 32MP punch. Of course, the cameras in the rear are good too as there are 3 of them. These three are a 16 MP primary, an 8MP ultra-wide and a 2Mp depth. Unfortunately, the lowlight shots aren’t the best and honestly, we think they’re quite grainy.

Its battery is large but not as large as the Y19 or Y12 which is disappointing considering they’re way cheaper. The S1 has a battery of 4500mAh. Of course, it comes with an 18W fast charging so you can always be on the go. As its software is optimized, the phone can last for up to 2 days without charging.

We can’t let you go without noting something:

You’ll have to use the S1’s micro USB port which is a shame as most phones utilize USB C.

To crown the S1 6GB, we went through the below devices:

  • Vivo S1
  • Vivo V9
Vivo S1 - Sri Lanka

Best Premium Value Vivo Phones in Sri Lanka (Rs. 50,000 - Rs. 150,000)

From Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 75,000

Vivo V15

Its screen is 6.39 inches. Yes, it’s big and comes at a 1080p resolution but it isn’t AMOLED. Instead, it’s an LCD display which is kind of disappointing.

For me, the LCD display isn’t that big of a deal as it delivers vivid colors indoors. It’s just that it becomes impossible to see when outdoors, which might be an issue for you.

Instead of the Halo view, you get Vivo’s Ultra Full View display. This gives it a 90.95% screen to body ratio which is the largest we’ve seen so far.

It looks pretty premium too as it has a polycarbonate back that we’ve come to love. This is great, but it’s a fingerprint magnet. This is especially the case with the V15’s black model.

Its front camera has great specs but some users may not be a fan of it. The V15 is one of the many phones that has its selfie camera hidden inside. It can be accessed with a click of a switch. Personally, I’m not a fan of devices like this, but they’re commonplace now so I’ve grown used to them.

That being said:

As the camera is hidden, there is no face unlock. However, the fingerprint sensor is noticeably fast but then again, this is something we’ve seen even in Vivo’s cheapest phones.

The phone utilizes pixel binding technology to ensure selfies are extremely vivid. This makes it take some great low light shots.

In terms of the back camera, expect three of them. It has a 12 MP primary sensor, another 8 MP camera and finally a 5 MP depth sensor. The fact that the depth sensor is 5 MP, and larger than the other Vivo phones we discussed is a plus. Then again, the phone is more expensive, so this was expected.

We did find something strange about its selfie camera. Its beauty filter is pretty strong and it’s especially harsh on darker skin tones.

For all of us darker Lankans, this makes the camera almost impossible to use as it makes you look white!

It comes with 64 GB of storage that can be expanded to 256 GB. Yes, this is awesome but why be impressed about it when some pretty cheap phones can do this too? The fact that it has 6GB of RAM makes it a blast to use as it’s pretty smooth.

Battery-wise, you’ll be disappointed. It’s 4000 mAh which is a shame.

To mark it as our pick, we ran through these other devices:

  • Vivo V15 Pro
  • Vivo V11 128GB
  • Vivo V11
  • V11 Pro

From this lot, the V15 pro gave the V15 the biggest run for its money.

Vivo V15 - Sri Lanka

From Rs. 75,000 to Rs. 100,000

Vivo V17 Pro

Like the V15, the V17 Pro comes with a built-in selfie camera. To get it to pop up, you have to click a button. Frankly, we’ve never gotten tired of seeing it pop up and still aren’t.

Its selfie camera is no joke as it’s a whopping 32 MP sensor along with an 8 MP ultra-wide one. With this combination, your selfies will be out of this world!

Its rear camera is something to gawk at as well. There are 4 of them, the main one being 48 MP.

Considering that Vivo is such a fan of the micro USB port, it’s refreshing to see them ditch it in the V17 Pro. That being said, this is something that’s long overdue, so should we really be excited?

It also has a headphone jack. It’s quite basic, but more premium phones tend not to have this feature.

At its price point, the Snapdragon 675 isn’t something to be too excited about as well, especially since many devices have the Snapdragon 855.

Unfortunately, the screen has an 84.3 % screen to body ratio, considering that the way cheaper Y19 has a ratio of 90.3%- This left us seriously confused.

Its back is not something you’ll like looking at. It looks like cheap plastic from a distance.

That being said, its display is 1080p and Super AMOLED so we’re a fan of that, especially since it is massive at 6.44 inches. It’s important that you hold your phone ergonomically, but this can be hard as the V17 Pro is so big.

It comes with 8GB of RAM so lagging is not an issue.

To crown the Y17 Pro, we couldn’t find any Vivo device that gave the Y17 Pro a run for its money.

Best Vivo Camera Phone

Our Mid Range Pick

Vivo Y12

From the assortment of mid-range devices discussed, the Y12 certainly has the best camera as it produces some exceptional low light shots. What’s more, it comes with great autofocus and bokeh capabilities, on par with more expensive devices.

Our High End Pick

Vivo v17 Pro

Its selfie camera produces high-quality shots due to its high resolution 32 MP+ 8 MP sensors. The rear camera produces equally stunning shots and it boasts 4 cameras, with the main one being 48 MP.

Its rear camera is a beast at reducing sound and capturing light phenomenally, especially in the dark.

Best Vivo Battery Phone

Our Mid Range Pick

Vivo Y11

The Y11 has a large 5000mAh battery that’s as good as the Y12’s. The only difference is that the Y11 is cheaper in price. This makes it our favorite mid-range device in terms of battery power.

Our High End Pick

Vivo S1

Although it only has a 4500 mAh battery, it performed the best from all the higher-end phones. With it, you can expect the device to last up to 2 days on stand by.

Things to Keep in Mind When Buying a Vivo Phone

Well, it looks like we’re done with our picks. So let us top it off with what you need to keep in mind when buying a Vivo Phone.

1. Features We Love About Vivo’s OS

Vivo utilizes Android through its FunTouch OS. Unfortunately, many don’t seem to think this is a fun feature, but we do.

Here’s why:

The OS is extremely customizable and lets you download as many themes for your device as you want. Other than superior customizability, it has a Quick Control Center where you have quick short cuts to different settings. To access it, you have to swipe down on the home screen.

For some Vivo devices, FunTouch offers hardware optimization tools, making things like gaming easier.

It also lets you use hand gestures to navigate through your device.

2. How Often Do You Get Software Updates?

The brand is known to update their devices quite slowly. It ties with Oppo in terms of slowness, which isn’t something to be proud of.

For example, Vivo phones in India got the Android Pie update in April of 2019. This is crazy considering it was released in August of 2018, with Sony updating their phones 67 days after the update and Nokia doing it 53 days after.

3. Notable Celebrities Who Use Vivo

Unfortunately, not many celebrities use Vivo. This may influence whether or not you want to buy one of their devices.

However, if you’re a Bollywood fan, you’ll love the fact that Aamir Khan is a stout supporter of the brand, even being the face for many of its campaigns.

4. Trivia About Vivo

Vivo Is Huge

Vivo is one of the largest phone manufacturers in the world. In terms of size, they’re the 5th largest out there!

We all know India has a massive population. With Vivo doing extremely well there, there’s no wonder it’s one of the largest phone manufacturers in the game.

The Brand Has Brothers

You could also say it’s gotten so big because of its parent company. It’s owned by BKK electronics, which knows the phone industry like the back of its hand. They’re the owners of Vivo as well as Oppo and One Plus. Similar to Vivo, its siblings are very common in India (Oppo more than One Plus though)

Basketball Fans

Vivo sponsored the NBA in China. If you’re a basketball fan, you’ll appreciate this service.

Music Is In Their Blood

The company started out as a HI-Fi music smartphone brand. That’s why you’ll be happy to know that they produced some of the world’s first phones with HI-Fi chips.

They Have Connections

The fact that it’s the 5th largest phone manufacturer in the world is impressive, but so is the fact that it’s registered in 100 countries.

5. Upcoming Vivo Phones To Be Excited About

In 2020, the manufacturer will be launching many new phones. Frankly, we’re excited about all of them. However, we went through their upcoming products and picked some of our favorites

Noteworthy pecs:

  • 6.39-inch display
  • 1080p, AMOLED screen
  • Snapdragon 855 chip
