iPhone 7 Plus Review

The iPhone was released years ago. How do you feel about owning a mobile from 2016? Although old, it looks and feels premium. It rocks an aluminum unibody. The aluminum helps it feel rich. However, the material also makes the Plus slippery.

Take a look at its sides. They were curved well – you’ll be able to hold the iPhone for hours.

Its weight and width make it feel like a million buck. Its dimensions are as follows, 158.2 mm x 77.9 mm x 7.3 mm – it’s paper thin. The handset also has good weight. It is solid at 188 grams.

You won’t be picking it up in exciting shades. The ones available are:

  • Jet Black
  • Black
  • Rose Gold
  • Gold
  • Red

We’re fans of the Rose Gold, it just oozes luxury.

How big are your hands? If you have smaller hands, holding the mobile won’t be hard. Its screen is a decent 5.5 inches.

Like most Apple products, it does not come with a microSD slot. Don’t expect a 3.5 mm headphone jack either.

If it’s any consolation, its buttons are in easy to reach spots. Playing with them is fun as they’re quite tactile.

Of course, there is a fingerprint sensor on its home-button. The 7 Plus unlocks in the blink of an eye. What about facial recognition? It is sadly a feature you don’t get.

As its display is not the largest, you won’t easily be able to immerse in whatever you’re watching. The panel on its screen is Retina IPS LCD. Know that LCDs don’t produce the most vibrant colours. However, Apple’s LCDs are especially sharp.

The 7 Plus comes with a 1080 x 1920-pixel resolution. You won’t notice any pixilation even if you look closely.

Although the colours won’t be vibrant, its screen is quite bright. It boasts of 625 (typ) nits. 500 is the gold standard, which it’s well above.

Now:

It’s a flagship from years ago. Back in 2016, infinity displays weren’t even a thing. That’s why the mobile has a mediocre 67.7% screen-to-body ratio.

You don’t have to worry about denting its front. Ion strengthened glass was placed. Grease and muck won’t be issues either. There is an oleophobic coating present.

Out of the box, the OS it runs is IOS 10.0.1. Apple upgrades its devices for generations. That’s why the 7 Plus received the latest IOS 14.4.4 update.

What about its chipset? The A10 Fusion is inside and it’s snappy. That being said, there is a plethora of newer processors that’re better.

If you remember, there is no microSD slot. But the ROM it comes with is good. You’ll be picking it up with either 32, 128 or 256 GB of space. You’ll be getting 3 GB of RAM with the unit. It’s quite a bit. But newer iPhones have been coming with around 6 gigs.

As it’s so thin, it’s no surprise that a large battery wasn’t placed. iPhones in general aren’t known for their battery lives. The 7 Plus has a 2900 mAh unit inside, and it fully drains in less than a day. No, its battery is non removable.

Here’s the deal:

It doesn’t fast-charge. Get a good book ready as it goes from 0-100% in 3 and a half hours. You’ll be using a lightning cable to charge it.

Although Apple is known for its less-than-great batteries, the company hits it out of the park when it comes to cameras. The iPhone 7 Plus is no exception. There is a 12 MP wide primary lens along with a 12 MP secondary telephoto lens on its rear – they take colour accurate and bright pictures. We’re fans of the photographs even in low light.

On its front camera, a single 7 MP sensor is present. It’ll keep you Instagram ready. Unlike the set-up on its rear, there is no bright LED flash. However, facial recognition is a feature you’ll be getting.

How much will it cost? When it first released, the iPhone 7 Plus cost an arm and a leg. You can now find it for around Rs.60,000 – 155,000. The storage variant you choose greatly affects the final price.
